Thank you to everyone who came to the Agency County Meeting on Thursday, September 25th. Dave Krepcho, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank, was in attendance. He led an open forum where agencies asked anything and everything!
Agencies had the opportunity to network and talk about food access in their own county. Attendees broke off into groups and were given various scenarios of clients seeking food assistance. We talked about food access barriers and what we can do to start knocking them down. Agencies were able to problem solve on their own, find small changes that they could start implementing immediately, and share current practices.
During the discussion, agencies pointed out that transportation is a major issue. Below are the two Brevard resources our agencies let us know about in Brevard County.
Information & Application Volunteers in Motion provides transportation for individuals who are unable to use other Space Coast Area Transit services. The Volunteers in Motion program offers transportation to locations such as medical facilities, pharmacies and grocery stores.
Senior TranServe
Senior TranServe allows the elderly to maintain their independence and quality of life by enabling them to get to medical appointments, shop for groceries, and visit loved ones.
Seniors must be 60 years of age or better, ambulatory and capable of entering and exiting a vehicle by themselves. We require a seven-day advanced notice for all requests.
