Universal Foundation Makes a Difference

Providing nutritious food to children and families in our community is a priority for Second Harvest. We partner with Universal Orlando and the Universal Orlando Foundation to bring “Bites, Camera, Action!” to local elementary and middle schools and 74 community sites.

Bites, Camera, Action! is a mobile nutrition program that has distributed more than 60,000 pounds of supplemental food to students and their families since 2012. Our School Farmers Market delivers healthy fresh fruit and vegetables to the children and families attending the school. Nearly 20 community partners join together at the School Farmers Market to deliver school supplies, SNAP outreach, health screenings, community resources, as well as a fresh, chef-prepared light meal to promote health and wellness to families.

In addition to the School Farmers Market, the Bites Camera Action! refrigerated truck is on the road each weekday delivering critically-needed nourishment where there often is none.

The success of this program would not be possible without the additional support provided by Universal employee volunteers. Nearly 8,597 Universal volunteers have donated thousands of hours packing and distributing 712,251 pounds of food, a total of more than 526,131 meals for delivery to veterans, adults, families and seniors in low-income neighborhoods, at transitional homeless sites and community resource fairs.

Together, through this partnership, we are inspiring and engaging our community to end hunger.
