Senior Market and Resource Fair

On April 3rd the Table 60 Group, Second Harvest and Iglesia Bautista El Camino hosted their second Senior Mobile Drop in the Old Baldwin Park area.

One of Second Harvest’s Partner Agency, Iglesia Bautista “El Camino”,  generously offered to host the drop to the seniors. When the Second Harvest staff members arrived to help at the drop we were pleasantly surprised at how many volunteers Iglesia Bautista El Camino had come to help distribute food throughout the day.

Ruben Martinez, the main contact for Iglesia Bautista El Camino, stated that the church went to other churches, and community centers to pass out flyers and to get the word out about the drop to the seniors.

There was a nice assortment of food that was distributed to the seniors and families in the neighborhood, such as produce, frozen chicken, canned product, bakery items and assorted fruit juices.   Some of the families had to make a couple of trips to their cars, because it was difficult to carry everything in one trip.

One of the goals of the senior food drop was to let the families in that area know about food pantries available. We feel that the goal was achieved as not only did they learn about Iglesia Bautisa El Camino, but our contact from Catholic Charities John Bonfiglio came by and introduced himself, and let people know about the pantry they have.   This was a great example of collaboration between the two agencies, and also of sharing resources with the clients.

This drop because of the collaboration between all the different agencies we were able to distribute over 30,000 pounds of food and feed over 400 individuals in the Old Baldwin Park area.
