Early this month The Cocoa PAL community center began serving nutritious afternoon meals to children and youth through Second Harvest’s Kids Cafe After School Meal Program.
As part of our strategic expansion, Cocoa PAL joins Club Esteem in Melbourne, becoming the second Kids Cafe in the county.
PAL is a youth crime prevention program that utilizes educational, athletic and recreational activities to create trust and understanding between police officers and youth.
The Kids Cafe program provides nutritious, USDA meal pattern compliant meals to youngsters in under-served communities. Meals are served in the late afternoon and are intended to supplement school lunches as well as to enhance community centers that have ongoing enrichment activities.
Second Harvest partners with 26 locations in four counties to feed over 2,000 kids every weekday from Monday through Friday.
That’s enough kids to fill the Amway Center twice each month!
