Mobile Drop Growth

Mobile Drop ProgramSecond Harvest’s Mobile Drop Program started in 2009 and has grown considerably over the past few years. These food distributions are a unique and effective approach to distributing fresh produce and nutritious food in underserved communities.

Evolving from an occasional event to help meet the demand throughout the service area, mobile drops now occur about 16 times per month and affect thousands of people across Central Florida.

Here are some fun facts about the program that help to illustrate its impact on our community:

Average # of pounds distributed per drop: 18,115 lbs.

Average # of households served per drop: 211

Average # of pounds received per household (does not include data from drops that serve both partner agencies and clients): 79 lbs.

Pounds distributed in 2011: 69,987 lbs.

Pounds distributed in 2015: 2,101,369 lbs.

Currently, mobile drops occur in Orange, Volusia, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties. If your agency is interested in learning more about the Mobile Drop Program, please contact Erin Gray or Paula Rebman.

NOTE: A training is required before hosting a drop, and you must have a large paved area to accommodate a SHFB truck and pallet jack.
