Shaneka Shakes Up the Warehouse

You may have noticed a new, yet familiar face, in the Second Harvest Food Bank warehouse. Four years after completing the Culinary Training  Program and putting her culinary and food preparation skills to work in the Production Kitchen, Shaneka Jimerson has moved to a new role as Volunteer Lead in the donation sorting area.

“This is a chance for me to learn more about another aspect of the mission and grow within the organization,” says Shaneka. “Plus, I love working with volunteers because they are so eager to give back.”

This summer, Shaneka is enjoying the variety of corporate teams, youth groups and individuals who keep the operation humming along.

“It’s all about teamwork,” she says. “It’s amazing to see how all types of personalities, ages and walks of life work together to accomplish one mission.”

Shaneka has learned there is no such thing as a typical day in this new role. One day she is leading a team to pack disaster relief boxes, the next day it is bagging potatoes, and after that, it’s sorting food drive donations.

Like the inner child in most of us, Shaneka is most excited for forklift training. Consider yourselves, warned!

She looks forward to working alongside you soon. Sign up for your next volunteer shift at www.feedhopenow.org/volunteer.
