Partner Spotlight: Eccleston Elementary School

Eccleston ElementaryThe School Farmers Market Resource Fair, a new addition to the Universal Orlando Foundation, Universal Orlando and Second Harvest partnership, Bites Camera Action! was held at Eccleston Elementary School on Wednesday, December 2nd. It was a huge success!

Over 88 families benefited from the event as we distributed 100 large family food boxes filled with nutritious nonperishable such as tuna, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, canned fruit and more. Large bags of fresh produce, like apples, sweet potatoes, and white potatoes, were also distributed.

Community resource providers shared information and services with the parents and children attending, and included health screenings, a mobile medical unit, child care services, employment opportunities, food stamp on-site applications, nutrition information, Orange County library on-site application,  education information on a vast amount of community resources, local food pantries in the area, healthy eating information, and so much more.  Chefs from Universal Orlando even served fresh hot soup, bananas, and bottled water from their fun and fabulous food truck.

In all, families received 2,500 pounds of shelf stable food, in addition to 2,949 lbs. of fresh produce. That’s a total of 5,349 pounds of healthy and nutritious food to help 440 children and their families stretch their food budgets.

Thanks to the great heart and team spirit of everybody involved that over 4,458, meals were distributed! Thank you to each and every person and organization involved for helping us provide much needed relief for our struggling neighbors.
