The goal of the Summer Food Service Program is to bridge the nutritional gap that occurs during the summer months when school is not in session and children lack access to school cafeterias. Nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks are served to those18 years and younger at non-profit locations such as churches, community centers and summer camps. Residential locations in low-income areas may also serve meals. Second Harvest Food Bank has been a program sponsor since 2008.
The Summer Food Service Program is federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is locally overseen by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness.
Second Harvest Food Bank is seeking partners in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties to help feed children when school is out for summer. If you are interested, please download the Application, complete it and return it to us for consideration.
